The Earth is on the verge of an environmental catastrophe, given the unprecedented period of extreme weather and climate disasters that 2020 has seen. This was stated by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during his online speech at the international conference "Petersberg Climate Dialogue". His statement was published on the United Nations website. According to Guterres, last year's average temperature was the highest in 3 million years - 3°C - and sea levels rose by 15 meters. At the same time, the concentration of carbon dioxide reached a record high, 148% higher than pre-industrial levels.

Guterres expressed confidence that it will be possible to prevent the worst effects of climate change if the countries of the world join forces in this direction. According to the UN, countries that account for 73% of emissions have pledged to achieve zero emissions by 2050. The UN Secretary-General also called on international lending agencies to stop financing large fossil fuel projects, which, in his words, are no longer economic investments. In addition, in his speech, he noted that the G7 countries should make "substantial" commitments to finance the fight against climate change and even double them.

The RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project is funded by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument and co-financed by the countries participating in the ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 Program.
