#Part4CM The RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project promotes awareness of environmental issues, energy efficiency, and the use of renewable energy sources, among others.

2022.10.05

In Ukraine, the development of renewable energy sources can increase energy independence. Ukraine is able to reach 50% of electricity generation from RES in the energy balance by 2030 Ukrainian experts believe that the growth of clean energy generation can significantly increase the country's energy independence and contribute to the implementation of the Green Deal.

The general trend of post-war development will be an increase in the share of electricity from renewable sources in the overall energy balance. This will be facilitated by removing financial and legislative restrictions on the development of renewable generation, expanding the possibilities for exporting electricity from renewable sources, and taking into account the Green Deal. Among the main principles of future renewable energy are compliance with environmental standards and the use of green technologies. Ukraine proposes to build 3.5 GW of hydroelectric power plants and pumped hydroelectric power plants, and to localize the production of renewable energy equipment such as wind towers, transformers, cables, electrolyzers, and batteries.

In addition, there are plans to build more than 30 GW of renewable energy capacity for H2 production and develop biofuel production. Possible sources of funding for green recovery could include compensation for damages from the aggressor, loans and grants from the EU, and effective Ukrainian and international business projects in the energy and environmental sectors.

3The RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project is funded by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument and co-financed by the countries participating in the ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 Program.
