#Part4CM The Romania-Ukraine Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project is aimed, among other things, at distributing information about alternative energy sources to reduce environmental dama

2023.02.21

One of these alternative sources is biogas. In Ukraine, there are significant prospects for its production from corn. Since it is planned that the restoration of our country's energy system after the war will be based on the principles of modernization, decentralization and environmental protection, this issue is quite relevant.

In Ukraine, nutritious corn residues can become a powerful raw material for biogas production, as 1,400 m3 of biomethane can be produced from one hectare of corn. In the EU, the demand for biogas is significant, but the EU cannot satisfy it on its own. However, an enterprise with a farm of 1000 cattle can provide raw materials for a 1 MW biogas plant. Europe has considerable experience in biogas production.

This is a relevant area in which the EU is investing heavily. Our task is to study the best practices and implement them in Ukrainian conditions.

The RO-UA Partnership for Climate Change Mitigation project is funded by the European Union through the European Neighborhood Instrument and co-financed by the countries participating in the ENI CBC Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020 Program.
