#SmartTour Third Stakeholder Meeting - From European Practices to Local Solutions

On July 23, 2026, the third stakeholder meeting was held in Ivano-Frankivsk as part of the “Smart Tourism – Smart Destinations: Accessibility, Sustainability, Digitalization, Cultural Heritage & Creativity (Smart Tour)” project, which is being implemented under the Interreg Europe Program.

The event brought together representatives from local government, the tourism sector, educational institutions, the business community, and the general public to discuss modern approaches to the development of tourist destinations, as well as to present good European practices developed within the project.

Participants learned about innovative solutions from partners in Romania, Germany, Cyprus, Italy, Greece, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and France. During the meeting, examples were presented of the use of GIS technologies for balanced spatial planning, VR solutions for creating new tourism experiences, digital tools and services for managing tourism destinations, as well as modern approaches to collecting and analyzing tourism data. Significant attention was paid to the use of artificial intelligence, regional tourism observatories, satellite-based tourism accounts, and tools for monitoring tourism activity to facilitate effective management decisions. Separately, participants were introduced to solutions from EcoCounter that enable the analysis of pedestrian and bicycle traffic and assist in planning the development of tourism infrastructure.

The practical part of the meeting took the form of a workshop, during which participants worked on three thematic case studies covering the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of tourism destination development. Working in teams, stakeholders collaboratively developed ideas and solutions for tourism development in Ivano-Frankivsk, after which they presented the results of their work. This format allowed participants not only to exchange experiences but also to formulate practical recommendations that can be taken into account in the community’s future tourism development efforts.
