#SWEM A city learning to cope with weather challenges

The Sustainable Weather Emergency Management (SWEM) project, implemented under the Interreg NEXT Romania-Ukraine 2021-2027 Program, aims to increase the resilience of cities to the effects of climate change and create an effective system for managing weather-related risks.
Climate change is no longer an abstract concept. It is felt every year in our region. Ivano-Frankivsk is experiencing increasingly frequent and intense weather events: snowfalls are becoming heavier in winter, floods occur in spring even in places where they have not been seen for decades, and in summer, heat waves and storms are increasingly threatening human health, infrastructure, and natural ecosystems.
Such phenomena demonstrate how exposed our communities are to the effects of global warming. They affect not only everyday life, but also the economy, agriculture, energy, transport, and security. Each natural disaster requires the mobilization of resources, coordinated work of services, and clear communication with the population.
That is why the SWEM project aims to develop the capacity of local authorities to respond quickly, improve emergency warning systems, train staff, and raise awareness among residents.
