#SWEM Skills That Can Save Lives
On 14 July, the First Aid Training took place in Ivano-Frankivsk as part of the project "Sustainable Weather Emergency Management (SWEM)", implemented under the Interreg NEXT Romania–Ukraine 2021–2027 Programme.
The main objective of the training was to equip participants with basic life-saving skills and teach them how to respond during the first critical minutes following a sudden cardiac arrest. Immediate and appropriate actions taken by bystanders can significantly increase a person's chances of survival.
During the training, participants gained both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in:
- assessing scene safety and calling the emergency medical services;
- recognizing sudden cardiac arrest;
- performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), including chest compressions and the use of a bag-valve mask;
- using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED);
- providing first aid in emergency situations;
Two more training sessions are still ahead, giving more residents the opportunity to acquire practical skills that could one day help save the life of a family member, colleague, or even a stranger.
