#SWEM Joint Solutions for Safe and Resilient Communities
From August 19 to 21, 2026, as part of the“Sustainable Weather Emergency Management (SWEM)" project, implemented under the Interreg NEXT Romania–Ukraine 2021–2027 Programme, representatives from Ivano-Frankivsk participated in an international conference held in Baia Mare, Romania.
The main purpose of the meeting was to exchange practical experience and discuss joint approaches to prevention, preparedness, and response to emergencies caused by dangerous weather phenomena.
Ukrainian and Romanian partners discussed the project’s progress and preliminary results, presented the specialized equipment purchased as part of the SWEM project, and exchanged experiences on organizing the work of relevant services during emergencies.
During the technical study visits, participants viewed the equipment purchased by the municipality of Baia Mare — including an aerial lift and a backhoe loader — and learned more about their use during emergency response operations.
Special attention was given to modern public warning systems and mechanisms for interagency coordination. Participants discussed the importance of timely public information, risk communication, and cooperation among government agencies, emergency response services, and municipal utilities.
Such working meetings are an important part of the cross-border partnership, as they allow for the exchange of practical experience and the joint development of solutions to enhance the safety and resilience of our communities.
