#SWEM Life-Saving Knowledge Is One of the Greatest Investments in Community Safety

2026.07.22

On 21 July, the final First Aid Training was held in Ivano-Frankivsk as part of the "Sustainable Weather Emergency Management (SWEM)" project, implemented under the Interreg NEXT Romania–Ukraine 2021–2027 Programme.

Participants gained the practical knowledge and skills needed to provide assistance during the first, most critical minutes after an emergency occurs. During the training, they learned to quickly assess the situation, respond appropriately, and act confidently until the emergency medical team arrives.

A key feature of the training was its hands-on format. Each participant had the opportunity to practice the procedures independently under the guidance of an experienced instructor, ask questions, and receive recommendations that will help them stay calm in a real-life critical situation.

Conducting such training sessions is a vital component of the SWEM project. After all, an effective response to weather-related emergencies depends not only on modern technology or the professional work of emergency services. It is equally important for residents themselves to be prepared to act, since bystanders are often the first to be on the scene with the victim.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the training sessions! Each participant took an important step toward ensuring that, in a critical moment, they won’t stand idly by but will confidently help those in need.
