#U_Lakes Where in Ivano-Frankivsk can you learn more about birds?

2025.10.27

As part of the information and awareness campaign provided for by the UrbanLakes - Cross-border synergy for blue ecosystem preservation (U_Lakes) project under the Interreg Next VI-A Romania-Ukraine program, we are informing citizens and tourists about where they can learn more about the world of birds, their behavior, migration, and important role in natural ecosystems. Such initiatives help to shape environmental awareness and love for nature, which we all lack so much in our daily urban lives.

On 26 October 2025 an ornithological and educational tour to German Lake in Ivano-Frankivsk took place. During the excursion, participants observed the inhabitants of the lake - mute swans, coots, little grebes, teals, and long-tailed tits. Everyone present learned to listen to the birds, look more closely at their behavior, and even see the world through their eyes.

Special attention was paid to the topic of bird ringing - they talked about how it works, why it is needed, and how it helps ornithologists learn more about migration routes, the age structure of populations, and the state of our urban ecosystems.

It was a pleasure to see so many people who care about the nature of their city. It is this kind of attention and care that helps preserve the unique biodiversity of Ivano-Frankivsk.
