#U_Lakes Second stakeholders meeting at German Lake

2025.11.10

On 7 November, the second stakeholders meeting was held to discuss the future development of German Lake as part of the UrbanLakes - Cross-border synergy for blue ecosystem preservation (U_Lakes) project, funded by the European Union through the Interreg NEXT Romania-Ukraine 2021–2027 programme.

The meeting brought together environmental experts, educators and citizens of Ivano-Frankivsk. The aim was to agree on approaches to the development and conservation of blue-green infrastructure around the lake - a space where nature, recreation and community come together in harmony.

During the discussion, participants raised important issues regarding the development of the area: walking and running paths, recreation areas and opportunities for sports. The need to introduce waste sorting, set up picnic areas and create a barrier-free space for all groups of visitors was also discussed.

Special attention was paid to environmental aspects: water quality, biodiversity conservation, water body purification, and ecosystem monitoring. Another important topic was the idea of creating an educational and nature-oriented space. Such solutions will help to combine recreation with learning about nature and will contribute to the formation of environmental awareness among city residents.

The meeting concluded with a summary of the results and the identification of key areas for further work: ensuring a balance between recreational and nature conservation functions, developing inclusive infrastructure, and educational work with visitors.
