#U_Lakes A new story of cross-border eco-synergy - project launch in Botosani!
On 5–6 November, the project team met in Botosani (Romania) and held a kick-off press conference for the project UrbanLakes - Cross-border synergy for blue ecosystem preservation (U_Lakes), which is implemented within the Interreg NEXT Romania–Ukraine 2021–2027 programme.
The project brings together the cities of Ivano-Frankivsk and Botosani to preserve urban water bodies, develop sustainable ecosystems and raise environmental awareness among residents. Its main goal is to create synergy between cities in the two countries for effective water resource management and the implementation of innovative practices in the field of ‘blue ecology’.
During the visit, the delegation from Ivano-Frankivsk, together with their Romanian partners, visited Lake Mihai Eminescu, which will be the pilot location for environmental activities within the project. A working meeting of the teams was held, during which the parties agreed on further steps to implement the initiative, the structure of joint activities and the communication strategy.
On the second day of the visit, the teams took part in a conference dedicated to the official launch of U_Lakes in Botosani. During the event, the project's goals, objectives and expected results were presented, and the importance of cross-border cooperation between communities in Ukraine and Romania in the field of water ecosystem conservation was emphasised.
U_Lakes will contribute to strengthening partnerships between cities, developing environmental education and implementing sustainable urban water management practices.
