#U_Lakes Practical visits and environmental solutions in Botosani
The second part of the Biodiversity Forum within the UrbanLakes - Cross-border synergy for blue ecosystem preservation (U_Lakes) project, funded by the European Union through the Interreg Next VI-A Romania-Ukraine 2021–2027 programme, was devoted to learning about the environmental solutions that the Botosani city is implementing to improve the environment and develop blue-green infrastructure.
One of the key events was a visit to the lake in Mihai Eminescu Park, a natural area where the U_Lakes project measures are being implemented. Participants learned about methods for maintaining the natural balance of the reservoir, modernizing coastal infrastructure, creating new ecological routes, and measures to preserve local flora and fauna.
Of particular interest were the waste management system and the modern approach to separate collection, as well as logistics solutions and technologies that minimize the impact of household waste on the environment.
Participants visited several important city institutions:
– ROOTS - Multimedia Center for Cultural Diversity, which combines educational, artistic, and environmental initiatives;
– InnoSciPromo Center, which actively works to promote science and innovation among young people;
– Energy Management Agency, which implements energy-saving technologies in municipal infrastructure and analyzes energy consumption in the city.
During the visit, special attention was paid to green corridors and city parks. Participants were able to assess how Botosani is creating a coherent network of natural areas that maintain ecological balance, reduce heat loads, and at the same time form a comfortable urban space.
The field visits provided an opportunity to see how Botosani integrates environmental solutions into various areas of urban management, from waste management to the development of recreational areas.
