#U_Lakes Recommendations for the Organization and Planning of Landscaping for the Land Area of German Lake

How can the German Lake area be developed while preserving its natural character and biodiversity? Which plants are best suited to the conditions of the riparian zone, and how can recreational spaces be made more attractive and environmentally sustainable?

The answers to these questions are contained in the recommendations for the organization and planning of landscaping for the land area of German Lake, developed as part of the project “UrbanLakes: Cross-Border Synergy for Blue Ecosystem Preservation” (U_Lakes, grant agreement ROUA00357), implemented under the Interreg NEXT Romania–Ukraine Programme 2021–2027.

The document contains a comprehensive analysis of the territory and the current state of green spaces, a description of the species composition of the vegetation, and an assessment of its phytosanitary condition. Special attention is given to natural riparian communities, the island, the buffer zone between the lake and the Bystrytsia Solotvynska River, as well as the role of these areas in preserving local flora and fauna.

The recommendations outline the main approaches to the further development of greening efforts: preserving natural riparian zones, expanding the species composition of vegetation, using primarily native species, controlling invasive plants, and supporting natural ecosystem restoration processes.

The document also includes recommendations for the functional zoning of the area and the selection of trees, shrubs, and perennials based on moisture levels and other natural conditions. For ornamental landscaping, it is recommended to use nature-oriented perennial plantings that require less maintenance, blend harmoniously with the landscape, and create favorable conditions for birds, pollinating insects, and other members of the local fauna.

Separate sections are devoted to planting techniques and the ongoing care of green spaces. The proposed solutions can serve as a foundation for planning future landscaping and greening projects without compromising the area’s natural and ecological value.

German Lake is not just a place for recreation. It is an important element of Ivano-Frankivsk’s green-blue infrastructure, helping to regulate the microclimate, retain surface water, support biodiversity, and create a comfortable natural space for residents.
