#WM4U A Memorandum of Cooperation has been signed!
On 19 March 2025, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed in Kyiv between the WM4U Strengthening Municipal Waste Management in Ukraine Programme and the Executive Committee of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council to launch a pilot project aimed at improving municipal waste management in line with EU standards.
According to the document, the programme will provide comprehensive support to the cluster, including:
- Assistance in establishing an inter-municipal waste management association.
- Assistance in the development or revision of a local waste management plan.
- Facilitate coordination with executive authorities, oblast administration on waste management planning.
- Training and capacity building, waste management planning, and implementation and operation of waste management systems.
- Conducting awareness raising activities and training programmes.
- Exchange of experience with waste management organisations in Sweden and other countries.
- Testing innovative waste management models (methods of waste sorting, collection and treatment, improvement of tariff systems).
- Advise on the role of municipalities in future Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems.
- Assist in the development of investment plans and feasibility studies.
- Provide investment support for small-scale infrastructure.
- Provide advice and assistance in attracting financing for large-scale waste management facilities.
